County Clerk’s office may receive an absentee ballot application up to 6 days prior the Election Day

Emergency Ballot
WV Code § 3-3-5c

County Clerk’s office shall receive (no earlier than the seventh day preceding the election and no later than noon of Election Day) an Emergency Ballot Application from the voter or a member of the voter’s immediate family. The Emergency Ballot Commissioners will make arrangements to deliver ballot to the voter admitted in a Medical Facility in Preston County or another Medical Facility within in a 25-mile radius of the Preston County Courthouse.

  • General 2026: Wed. October 21, 2026, through Sat. Oct. 31, 2026, excluding Sunday
  • HOURS: Monday thru Friday 8:30am-5:30pm Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm

ELECTION DAY VOTING: Polls open 6:30am till 7:30pm

WV PRIMARY ELECTION

WV Code §3-1-31

  • Typically held the second Tuesday of May
  • The major political parties in a Primary Election are narrowing down their candidates to those that will appear on the ballot is the General Election.
  • Non-Partisan Ballot: The races appearing on a Non-Partisan Ballot will appear on the Primary Ballot Only. This is considered their General Ballot.
  • DEMOCRAT votes a DEMOCRAT PARTY BALLOT
  • REPUBLICAN votes a REPUBLICAN PARTY BALLOT
  • MOUNTAIN votes a MOUNTAIN PARTY BALLOT if: No MOUNTAIN Ballot exists, ONLY a NON PARTISON BALLOT can be voted
  • LIBERTARIAN votes a LIBERTARIAN PARTY BALLOT if: No LIBERTARIAN Ballot exists, ONLY a NON-PARTISAN BALLOT can be voted
  • Minor Party Registrations: (See Choosing your party*in Voters Registration) Example-No Party Affiliation, Independent
    • You have the option to vote a Democrat or Republican Ballot, but you have to ask for one of these Ballots at the time you approach the Election Official (pollworker).
    • The Election Official CAN NOT suggest a specific ballot for you.
    • If you do not ask for a specific party’s ballot, you will vote a Non-Partisan Ballot only.
  • NON-PARTISAN BALLOT is included on every ballot listed above along with the specific parties’ candidates.
  • A NON-PARTISAN BALLOT can include these offices but only during the appropriate timeline such as:
    • WV Justice Supreme Court of Appeals – different divisions
    • Circuit Court Judge, 22nd Judicial – 8-year term
    • Family Court Judge 20th Circuit – 4-year term
    • Magistrate Judge, Division 1 – 4-year term
    • Magistrate Judge, Division 2 – 4-year term
    • Magistrate Judge, Division 3 – 4-year term
    • Board of Education – 4-year term
    • Conservation District Supervisor
    • Constitutional amendments
    • Additional Levies or Issues

WV GENERAL Election

WV Code §3-1-31

Typically held the next Tuesday following the first Monday of the month of November of each even year.

All registered voters will receive the same ballot, regardless of how the voter is registered.
